FIFTY…. ridiculous that i got the goal a little past the halfway mark of the year. i definitely wanted this one to be my fiftieth (that looks weird, so i’ll just write 50th).
ahh… san miguel — the beer of choice for the filipino. i remember family parties (when i was a wee one) where uncles would drink this stuff… that was when i thought beer was gross (so maybe when i was like 18 or so)… the commercials on the filipino channels were awesome too — i couldn’t find the one i was looking for, but i saw these on youtube and they’re just as awesome:
SABADO, SABADO, SABADO — this is my jam before i roll out on saturdays — make it yours too:
and the obligatory pacman spot:
anyways… it’s a really smooth lager (american adjunct lager — you’ll notice this is a pretty popular type)… it’s light just like the rest of ‘em…with minor flavors of grains
you might be thinking, “damn, joe… what an anti-climactic drink to achieve your goal on”
i say, “nay”
it’s kinda cool that it all came full circle around the world back to the philippines… aww
but don’t take my word for it, take it away, zane! (awesome — it’s a still image of balut! don’t click that if you’re squeamish!!!!)
if guinness was a baseball player and it was up to bat, i would be chanting, “o-ver-ra-ted… o-ver-ra-ted” — is that a crime to say?
you would think that guinness would be ridiculously thick, like you open the can and a loaf of pumpernickel bread falls out.. but no, it’s got a very mild taste to it
so much mystery behind that widget thing that they put in the cans and bottles too, which apparently, is supposed to release nitrogen when you open it up (to keep it creamy) [ wiki ] — i thought it was to make the beer beat other beers in street races… silly me
don’t get me wrong — it’s a good beer and easy to drink, but i think much of the allure is its marketing — and boy, they have a great marketing team there:
so it’s 2009… i have some ideas to switch this bitch to wordpress — i always thought it was cool that i made the site from scratch and pretty much everything works well…
i’m thinking 2009 will be the year to automate things better… and i’ll be able to write posts at work or other locations — which sounds like a sweet plus… probably when the gorirra job board gets cleared (only 2 now!)
so i’m trying to diversify my beer portfolio, which currently is NOT strong to quite strong… i’m saddened to hear that mojohd (specifically three sheets) has shut down. as andy said, zane’s liver probably needs the break
**update**
so andy gave me an idea (not a zj) — set a goal for beer this year… 50 different beers that i’ve never tried this year (that’s about 1 per week)… i’ll need to document it… wish me and my liver luck!
