08.30.10 | songs stuck in my head

last weekend, i played a bonfire-at-the-beach set for friends… it was probably the longest i’ve played the guitar at one time in a loooong while… my fingertips were hatin’ me the next day

the playlist was pretty diverse — from weezer to dave matthews to roy orbison (yea… random)

anyways, these three songs stuck out from the night — they’re stuck in my head still… i gotta say, they’re pretty fun to play and they bring me back almost 10 years when i was first startin’ out on the guitar…

gonna try soundcloud for this — we’ll see how it works

05.02.10 | beerfest 2010: “we can only go up from here”

you could definitely tell that this was the inaugural year for the beerfest. TERRIBLE organization and many of the booths ran outta beer by 5:30p!

crazy packed (photo by geoff)

so dave, geoff, and i arrived at the ballpark and was greeted with two crazy lines to get into this REALLY small setup (it was right behind the kids’ baseball field)

so ridiculous — i really LOVED the idea of them having a beerfest, especially coincided with the brewers’ visit. however, i think the marketing folks underestimated the number of people who would be at this event.

in one word, it was a clusterf*ck… people were annoyed by how cramped everything was. it was discouraging to see people just cutting in line

we lost dave for a moment, but then i spotted him at the friggin’ anheuser-busch booth… i didn’t get outta work early to drink bud light — f that

i think about 30-45 minutes after we arrived, geoff and i finally got our first beers: “why ? not” american wheat beer by new english brewing co. got two of those each so we could jump into another line and get more.

this next line for green flash was a lot quicker… or was it just the beer that we were pounding? (btw, i really hate drinking beer like that — a microbrew must be enjoyed, not pounded… anyway. got to the front of the line and was the LAST PERSON to get a beer… hop head red ale (got two of these, but like a good friend, i gave one to dave… errr… sold one to dave)

we make our way to the hill at the park at the park and catch a small glimpse of the broken lizard guys (sans jay chandrasekhar aka ramathorn — booooo)

i needed to eat at this point so we go to one of the hot dog spots behind the batter’s eye… as i’m in line, my eye is caught by none other than channel 4’s jenny cavnar. i was caught between getting a hot dog and taking a picture with her… what did i end up doing? well… if you follow my twitter account, you’ll know that i didn’t get the picture — missed opportunties!

tho i did get this pic at least:

bastard gave me fleas!

in all… they can only go up from here… maybe reserve a bigger area for the lushes and have the breweries bring enough for the two hour event

the plus sides: i got my swarm badge and the padres won with a bell save… keep it rollin’!

04.15.10 | ever heard of kanye west?

so yea… this happened last weekend…

shot by geoff on his iPhone — his fat finger covered the mic for half the song — then it gets loud… and you hear a chick and her friend yell out truthful things

i pretty much slur a lot of the lyrics… half of it was nerves, the other half was actually not knowing the lyrics…

03.26.10 | the fpsa show

so there was MUCH buzz during the wedding week about “the fpsa show” — the podcast that sarmad and i ran… we used to have it posted on odeo, itunes, and our own personal blogs…

oddly enough, there was no trace of it out on the interwebz…

the fpsa show is back online!

the fpsa show is back online!

luckily (for you), we kept backups of every recording… even the outtakes — and there are some good ones

so without further ado, here is the fpsa show podcast featuring sarmad and joey (with guest appearances by dave, saman, and fernando vargas)

enjoy!

01.05.10 | sick belt buckle, bro!

has anyone seen the ‘jersey shore’ show? it’s such crap… but it’s a terrible train wreck that you get hooked

well, ruxin from the league has this character named “bobby bottleservice” and it’s friggin’ awesome and he’d fit right in! check ‘em out

we quoted these videos all night long on new year’s eve…

on a side note, 2009’s phrase was “boom, you’re pregnant” — what will 2010’s phrase be? an early contender: “bonus jonas”

07.16.09 | spot the movies

i found this really cool art print online where the artist drew a bunch of items in a pile. all the items are from “famous” movies…

so this has been a really long email chain, but we’re stuck on the last few…

instead of giving you the answers off the bat, let’s see if you can get some — i have a guess that tim will be really good at this…

07.15.09 | promote synergy!

“wtf, joe?”

yea i know… the site’s been collecting a bit of dust, which normally means that i’ve been busy with projects or i’m lazy (or both)

so what’s been up?

  • i’m still drinking beer… i’ve broken the goal of 50… and of course i’m behind on writing about them… talk about fanfare, eh? i think i want to blame wordpress for that… first for releasing 2.8, which had tons of issues (or maybe my site design had the issues… nahhhh). but then i just recently upgraded to 2.8.1, which is a lot better, i don’t get as many errors (they’re still there, but i can write posts at least)
i found out it’s mostly to do with old plugins that aren’t compatible with the new versions… which is lame-o!
  • on the topic of web development, things have been movin’ along well at work and gorirra… i think i’m running myself ragged tho — after these projects on the table, i think i’m gonna take a break somehow… doubt it tho — oh well…
  • hung out with the fpsa kids over the fourth, where our motto was “24 hours to live” — fun times…
  • padres stink, as they are wont to do… effin’ a… football’s right around the corner i guess
  • i twitter a bunch, so you can pretty much follow my going’s-ons there… (left column of my site — booyah)

is that it? i think so… everything’s been pretty much status quo…

ahh… so here’s something — chaunce, andy, and i were talking about clever ways to hide particular files on one’s computer… i’m sure you all have clever ideas, so post it out… you can be “anonymous” if you want (tho i’ll know who you are, you dirty bastard)

i know mark has a folder on his desktop that says, “mark’s 2008 tax stuff” — very clever, mark… very clever.

the lonely island – like a boss

05.20.09 | i look funny, but yo i’m makin’ money see?

i could probably safely assume that chaunce and i are the biggest nerds at work — maybe that’s why they moved us together (far away from the department)

we have a pirate flag, random star wars toys, and the pièce de résistance: scrabble

i was pretty confident with my scrabble skills… but i haven’t won yet — fack…

i get a good lead in the beginning, the chaunce throws in some random word with q’s and z’s that HAPPENS to hit a triple word score.

here’s our last game — i got destroyed with his multi-word combos…

335-235

335-235

“men” was mine… hell yea

this is what happens when andy leaves and i don’t play ping pong

05.11.09 | i can never get sick of that song

first was lolcatz and now there’s keyboard cat (thanks to mark for finding this gem). here are a couple good ones

haley joel and walker hang out!

i was definitely not expecting this to happen to that kid!

is that song stuck in your head yet? cuz i REALLY want that as my ringtone… stat

then on last weekend’s snl, timberlake and sandberg reprised their characters to make an interesting mother’s day song:

05.11.09 | beer: sam adams light

always a good decision...

always a good decision...

store: vons
type: light lager
abv: 4.00%

there’s a lot of light beers out there — but i think this is one of the best ones…

rob actually got me into this beer a while ago — props for that!

sam adams boston lager is a bit too harsh imho. the light variety is a lot easier to drink… it goes down smoother

can’t wait for the summer ale to come out — it’s the bizzle (best)
